OOC and IC Rules

For those who are new to roleplaying, OOC stands for out of character, or the interactions you will have with other members of BG, while IC stands for in character, or the interactions your character(s) will have with other members' characters or the general world around them.

OOC Rules

-Be respectful to other members, by far the #1 rule. This is a bit of a given, but we are all here to have fun on BNG, and while we all have different opinions on things please discuss these things in a civilized matter.
-Expletives such as fuck, shit, damn are allowed while talking to others (and this is one of the reasons why we are PG-13ish), however anything that could be classified as hate speech is not allowed. In general, blatant racism, sexism, and homophobia are not tolerated on BG, and although you are allowed to express your opinions on such do so in a respectful manner.
-The moderators and admins volunteer their time to upkeep BG, so please don't pester them to review your things. It's acceptable to let someone know casually when you post something, however don't let anyone know again until a week has passed since that date. Chances are staff see it, but are simply too busy or are checking in with other staff to see if something is acceptable.
Mature themes regarding sex, abuse, or other things are not allowed to be talked about in the general discussions and chat boxes.
-Excessive trolling is not allowed, especially if done at another's expense. Everyone has their own sense of humor, but if someone tells you they are uncomfortable about being made fun of, it's expected you cease and desist immediately. (Refer to the #1 rule.)
-Going along with Proboards's terms of service, you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You may only have one account.

IC Rules

-IC does not equal OOC, and vice versa. If someone's character does not like your character, this does not mean they hate you. Likewise, if two people disagree with each other OOC they can't just bring this into their RPs together (and this most often applies to fighting/killing other characters) without reasonable IC justification.
-No powerplaying, metagaming, or anything similar. You control your character and NPCs and no one else. Even if your character has a large statistical advantage over another character, you still can't autohit them or anything of the like. Likewise, if something about a character isn't clearly presented (their age, nationality, etc) then your character most likely would not know it. Of course, there are certain magical techniques that allow a character to know certain things, and sometimes people will write certain things in their character's description that could be hints for your character, but unless you make an agreement with the other player, please don't do this.
-Characters are allowed to say whatever they would like, however keep in mind real life offensive words are as offensive in RP. Again, this is purely for IC.
-Gritty details involving violence are allowed, however please keep it tasteful. If you have no point in describing how your character dismembered someone in every little way other than to describe it, just don't.
-Sexual acts are strictly PG-13. Anything that goes over this rating must be faded to black. That's not what this site is about.
-While your character can kill other characters, in non-event threads you must ask for a member's permission, and IC permission does not equal this. Your character must also have reasonable justifications for doing so. In the same vein of things, characters with a lot of stat points cannot just go ham on newbies, and if this happens an admin will swoop in and your character will be severely punished. If you sign up for an event, you're putting your character's life in your own hands, however it's still highly advised to not kill other characters without their player's permission.
-If you wish for your character to be a founding member of a major organization or a member of a government, you must contact an admin to get this backstory approved. Your character's history and personality must also fit such. This doesn't apply to your own created organizations and countries.
