Character Creation

As an RP site, the most important part of starting on BNG is creating your character. The character profile template with some instructions can be found here, however this thread covers some more basic information on creating your character, along with previews of both templates.

When you create your character, its often easiest to start off with a general idea of their personality, history, and abilities, and build off it from there. On BG we allow a vast many types of characters, and so long as your character stays within their statistical limits and is doesn't break site canon, which is rather hard to do so, your character concept will probably be allowed. We do write in third person on BG, so please make sure the majority of your character template follows this, although if you would like to do a few tasteful excerpts from other perspectives such is permitted.

By this general outline, your character can be rich or poor, old or young, human or not. You may also use whatever face claim you wish to represent your character, or none at all, although people tend to use art over real pictures. Your character may also be of any alignment, or perhaps even in a position where one alignment doesn't really completely suit them, although please put the closest one on your character profile even if that is the case. It's assumed players will at least read your character's personality and appearance before RPing with you, if not your entire character profile, as that is why they're created.

When you actually submit your character, make sure you cover all the information on the template. WIP profiles go in their own sub-board, and can be moved by asking a member of the staff once they are complete. Once your profile is complete, it will then be looked over by a librarian, global moderator, and/or administrator, who will either critique your profile or give you a 1/2. As character profiles are complex things, characters require two approvals from separate staff members. Once your profile is 1/2ed, make sure you post that you acknowledge the 1/2 so that it will be easier for staff to see it needs to be 2/2ed. Once this happens, your character will be moved the "Approved Characters" subforum and you are free to RP as you will.

Please note that if you are purchasing any items during character creation they must be approved and priced in item creation, although you may have moderators critique the other parts of your profile while you're waiting for the items to be priced, simply let a moderator know you'd like to wait for the items to be accepted before being fully approved, or just make a modification to your character after creation once the items are purchased. The same does not go for companions as they are submitted in the Character Creation board to begin with, although you may submit a companion alone if you like. They follow the same rules outlined above for the creation process.
